Fireside sparks: Dr Sachin Jain delivers a gloves off look at healthcare

If there were a prize for being the most evocative first-day speaker at LM2025, the winner would certainly have to be Dr Sachin Jain, president and CEO of SCAN Group. The pre-publicity for this presentation promised a “dynamic and thought-provoking fireside chat” with Dr Padmaja Patel, president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and it certainly lived up to expectations.

It started in a fairly routine, perhaps low-key manner, but warmed up considerably as Dr Jain, prompted by some pertinent questions from Patel, pulled few punches as he unleashed some deep concerns about healthcare.

As he moved up in his career, Dr Jain said he “really wanted to try to fix health care from different vantage points. I think about myself a little bit like Diogenes, you know, the famous Greek philosopher who was on a search for an honest man.

“I’ve been searching for an honest person in health care, and I haven’t found one yet – no, I’m kidding, I’m kidding,” he laughed. “But, you know, I’ve worked in every sector of health care, and have been trying to fix it from different perspectives. And I think that over the course of my journey, I have developed some theories about why healthcare is broken as it is.”

Just knowing what some of those theories are actually about makes it worth signing up for online access, if not for their practicality – the entertainment value alone is bound to satisfy.

He also he has his own theory about doctors and, in the video clip below, explains how they can make good use of their comfort zone.
