On Facebook Live from Parliament

A live broadcast from the hallowed halls of Parliament tonight will set the scene for the finale in a series of lectures organised by Evidence Based Eating New Zealand over this year.

It is the fourth in a total of 12 presentations and will go live on EBE’s Facebook page at 7.30 pm (NZT). Tonight’s addresses will be delivered by:

  • Dr Luke Wilson, a Wellington based GP and a director and New Zealand Ambassadoc for the Australian based group, Doctors for Nutrition.
  • Dr Mike Joy of Victoria University, an expert in freshwater ecology and passionate environmental advocate.
  • Dr Cristina Cleghorn, a public health nutrition researcher at the Department of Public Health at the University of Otago, Wellington.

EBE’s lecture series this year has been promoted on the catchline, “Saving health – Saving the planet’, a reflection of one of its basic tenants that the development of more sustainable plant-centred diets is not only best for human health but ideal for the planet as well.

It’s broader title, The Whole Food Solution, enabled an array of topics to be covered in a series that started in Christchurch on May 22 followed by a lively evening in the Burns Lecture Theatre at Otago University, Dunedin on August 1st.

A key success of that event was the an assurance from Professor Jim Mann that he would assist any effort to encourage the uptake of more plant-based nutrition knowledge amongst students at the Dunedin Medical School.

After that, Covid’s Delta strain struck, forcing the cancellation of any personal presentations in Auckland, although a meeting did go live on Zoom on October 9th.

Unfortunately Covid has also curtailed tonight’s event in Parliament which, although open to the general public, has a socially distanced seating restriction for a maximum of only 40 people.

Nevertheless MC for the evening, Dr Martyn Williamson, says the information to be presented tonight will be just as interesting for those attending personally as those who are tuning in on Facebook. All are welcome.
