Ports of Auckland workers were assured of the safety and efficacy of Pfizer’s Covid 19 vaccine in a 45-minute stand-up delivery from Ministry of Health representative Dr Rawiri McKree Jansen, on the port’s Bledisloe wharf at 6.30 this morning.
The address came as the NZ Government prepares to roll out vaccinations across the country from tomorrow. In the front line are border facing staff and healthcare workers with those who will deliver the jab being the first to be vaccinated.
Dr Jansen faced a wide range of questions covering everything from family bubbles to how the vaccine would affect pregnant women. One questioner expressed concern about recent news reports that the vaccine could mimic breast cancer symptoms in women.
Other concerns covered how the Government’s ‘suggestion’ to vaccinate for your own protection could still become a requirement or result in a “reassignment of duties” for some workers, depending on how employers interpreted safety in the workplace.
The full detail of Dr Jansen’s address is covered in the podcast presented below.
